ShoutOUT! 6 Southeast Asian Projects Awarded Singapore Film Commission Grant

 


Six feature-length film projects from Southeast Asia - three from Vietnam and one each from Myanmar, Indonesia and the Philippines - have been awarded the second cycle of the Southeast Asia Co-Production Grant (SCPG) administered by the Singapore Film Commission. The projects are:

  1. Cu Li Never Cries by Pham Ngoc Lan (Vietnam)
  2. Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell by Pham Thien An (Vietnam)
  3. Skin of Youth by Ash Mayfair (Vietnam)
  4. The Women by The Maw Naing (Myanmar)
  5. Some Nights I Feel Like Walking by Petersen Vargas (Philippines)
  6. This City is a Battlefield by Mouly Surya (Indonesia)

Initiated in 2019 with an emphasis on nurturing film talent in Singapore and the region to jointly develop quality Asian stories for the world, the SCPG provides projects with up till SGD 250,000 in funding for cost categories such as: manpower, professional services, equipment and others.

Amongst the awardees, two of the Vietnamese titles, Phạm Thiên Ân's Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell and Phạm Ngọc Lân's Cu Li Never Cries, are debut features lead by leading Singapore and Vietnamese producers such as Jeremy Chua, Teh Su Ching, Lai Weijie, Trần Thị Bích Ngọc, and Trần Văn Thi.

Out of the eight feature films awarded for the inaugural cycle in 2019, three are currently in post-production, with the remaining slated for filming in earl 2021.

Awardees from the previous cycle include projects such as:

  2. Yuni by Kamila Andini (Indonesia)
  3. Autobiography by Makbul Mubarak (Indonesia)
  4. Glorious Ashes by Bùi Thạc Chuyên (Vietnam)
  5. Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash by Edwin (Indonesia)
  6. Regretfully at Dawn by Sivaroj Kongsakul (Thailand)
  7. Arnold is a Model Student by Sorayos Prapapan (Thailand)
  8. Anatomy of Time by Jakrawal Nilthamrong (Thailand)
